At Least 169 Killed in Pre-Dawn Attack in South Sudan’s Ruweng Region
A minimum of 169 people, including 90 women, children, and the elderly, were brutally slain in a pre-dawn attack carried out by armed youths from a neighboring state affiliated with the opposition SPLA-IO force in South Sudan's Ruweng region. The armed youths torched houses and markets, slaying senior leaders of the region and causing 1,000 civilians to flee to a UN base. The UN has warned that South Sudan is on the brink of reliving a full-scale civil war following this massacre, as well as government airstrikes and a lack of medical personnel in other parts of the nation.
